Exponents/ Roots Flashcards
Multiplying exponents
If same base, ADD the exponents (NOTE: No rule for adding exponents)
Raising an exponent to a power
Multiply the powers
Dividing Exponents
If same base, subtract the powers (NOTE: No rule for subtracting exponents)
Negative Exponents
Put value in denominator i.e. 3^-2= (1/3^2)=(1/9)
Raising a (positive or neg) fraction to a power
x^n decreases as n increases (positive fractions approach 0).
Any number raised to 0 is….
1 (0^0 is undefined)
0 raised to any number is…
0
1 raised to any number is…
1
Products of roots
If roots are the same, you can multiply whats inside the root
How to rewrite sqrt(64 x 49)
sqrt(64) x sqrt(49)
Quotients of roots
If roots are the same, you divide & combine into 1 square root. (Also can do the inverse & write as two separate roots)
