Q

What is a logarithm?

A

A logarithm is the exponent a base is raised to in order to give a particular value (argument)

example: y = b^x → x = b^y

What is a logarithmic function?

A

A logarithmic function is the inverse of an exponential function

(y = log_b^x “y equals log base b of x (log is is being raised by b on the bottom)

Q

How do you convert from exponential to logarithmic?

A

The b value is the same base from the original exponential function and the original result from the exponential function is the argument and the exponent from the original exponential function is the result

(example: 10^2 = 100 → log_10^100 = 2 (log is being raised by 10 on the bottom)

Q

How do you convert from logarithmic to exponential?

A

The b is the same for the base in the exponential function, the argument is the result of the exponential function, and the result is the exponent in the exponential function

(example: log_5^125 = 3 → 5^3 = 125 (log is being raised by 5 on the bottom)
