Exploratory Data Analysis Flashcards
Is Descriptive Statistics a key part of Exploratory analysis?
Yes
Why do we do exploratory data analysis?
To get a better understanding of the data and what it tells us. So that we can make informed decisions and ask more focused questions.
What is Descriptive Statistics?
A set of techniques used to summarise and describe the main features of a dataset.
Why do we do descriptives?
To get a general idea of what the data looks like and help spot errors in a quick and simple way.
What are pivot tables?
Pivot tables are a data tool used to summarise and organise large anounts of data in a meaningful way. They also allow you to quickly look up the information you need.
Why are pivot tables useful?
The my allow you to quickly see the patterns and relationships in the data that might not be immediately obvious.
What does VLOOKUP stand for?
It means a vertical lookup.
What are the three main types of descriptive statistics?
Frequency Distribution, Measures of Central Tendency and Measures of Variability
What is Frequency Distribution?
A table or graph that illustrates the number of occurrences of each of each value or group of values in a dataset
What are Measures of Central Tendency?
These are estimates of the middle or average values in the dataset. These are include the mean, median, mode, min and max.
What are Measures of variability?
Describes how spread out the data is. Range, standard deviation, and variance are all measures of variability.
