Luckily smallpox had invaded Peru before Francisco Pizarro had arrived and left thousands dead. The Francisco captured the Aztecs ruler Atahualpa, he promised to release him in exchange for gold. He landed there on easter so he called it La Florida (flowerly). Eight years later he came again to establish a colony, but american indians used poisoned arrows to drive away invaders. Unluckily he was one of the people shot. Francisco Coronado had a goal to find the gold cities. He took de Niza as his guide. Traveling more than 7000 miles they found a american indian pueblo. A pueblo is a village apartment made of stone or adobe rising high in the sky. Niza though these were gold cities but Cornado did not. He then sent Niza back. Coronado then kept traveling north up into the great plains and then ending his expedition saying, “Seven cities of gold are just seven little villages.”

France had sent Jacques Cartier to explore the coastline of the atlantic. He was goal was to find a Northwest passage, an all water route through the North American Continent so it would be easier for ships sailing to west asia.Cartier did not however find the passage but he did find land that we call Canada today. He also found something valuable as spanish gold- beaver fur. Beaver hats were in top market in europe and hat makers were willing to pay full prices for beaver pelts. The first settlement in new france (canada) was founded by Samuel de Champlain. In 1608 he sailed up the St. Lawrence river and built a trading post called Quebec. For the next 150 years quebec would be a base for french explorers, soldiers, traders, and fur trappers. New France failed to attract large numbers of settlers.Because of their harsh climate new france discouraged french farmers from crossing the Atlantic.
