Explanation of the decision tree steps Flashcards
what is frequency data?
How often something occurs within a dataset
- e.g. In a survey about favourite colours, if 10 people choose “blue,” the frequency of “blue” is 10.
What is continuous data?
Data with a value within a given range/ continuous scale
- e.g. height, weight, time
What is the comparison of variances?
assessing whether there is a variance in two independent samples accessing the same information
e.g. this year vs last year
What is the comparison of central tendency?
analysing and comparing measures that describe the centre or typical value of a dataset. These measures include the mean, median, and mode, which summarise the data to identify trends or differences between datasets.
What does normal mean?
Is there a normal distribution of results?
- divide results into bins
What are related samples?
related samples (also called dependent samples or paired samples) refer to groups of data that are connected or related in some way.
What are unrelated samples?
unrelated samples (also called independent samples) refer to groups of data that are not connected or related in any way. Each observation in one sample is independent of every observation in the other sample, meaning there is no pairing or linkage between the groups.
