Q

Low valued land and low population due to area being majoraty used for farming1

A

Sacrificing land means they will have to relocate and loose there property/land

This means for farmers incomes and livelihoods would be made more challenging and unsustainable financially due to lose of land and the high cost and difficulty associated with reloactation

This means farms will become less economically successful

Therefore overtime local economy will reduce and become less diverse as there farms either move or go out of business.

Reducing resiliency to future economic problems

Q

This leads to conflict because…1

A

Not all land can be protected due to economic costs and sediment still needs to be supplied to the sediment cell to ensure the safety and protection of the rest of the cells coastline from excessive erosion for example

Q

How might uncertainty effect Easington gas refineries?

A

If sea levels rise further than predicted sea defenses may become ineffective and refineries will be at high risk.

Meaning either large sums of money needs to be invested in further coastal defenses or business at the plants will become less economic and safe

Q

How might conflicts arise by building larger defences?

A

Environmental groups will oppose the damage to the natural appeal and processes of the area
