Cat5?
cabling standard @ 100 mbps (utp)
Cat5e?
cabling standard @ 1 gbps (utp)
Cat6?
cabling standard @ 10 gbps (utp)
Plenum?
Fire retardant network cable used in Plenum areas which are between floors. This helps prevent cables from heating up causing smoke and fires.
Shielded twisted pair?
EMI resistant ethernet cables
Unshielded twisted pair?
Not resistant to EMI. Ethernet cables with 10/100/100 Base-T Standards.
568A/B?
Ethernet cabling standards to ensure proper ethernet packet transfers. 568A begins with white green. 568B begins with white orange.
Fiber?
Cable that user laser light to travel instead of electricity. 1 gbps speed.
Coaxial?
Center core cable covered with insulation and braided wire for cable and satellite connections
Speed and transmission limitations?
cat 5 - 100 meters, cat 5e - 100 meters, cat 6 33-55 meters
Video cables?

sed by smaller devices like laptops and video cameras. Mini hdmi type-c connector with regular size hdmi connector on other end lof cable
Display port?
vesa standard, packetized data, compatible with hdmi and dvi. Passsive adapter.
Dvi?
igital visual interface supports hdtv as single link and dual link. Dvi-d supports digital while dvi-i (interchangeable) supports digital and analog connections.
Multipurpose cables?
Used to connect to a multitude of devices like: phones, printers, cameras, etc
Lightning?
jack for iphones and ipads
Thunderbolt?
High speed serial connector based on mini display port (MDP) connector versions 1-2. While version 3 uses usb-c connector.

Cables that are used to provide serial connections to hard drives.
Sata?
Serial Advanced Technology attachment point to point connection between a sata device host bus adapter (sata controller)
Ide?
Pata drives that use 40 pin ribbon cables and a standard molex power connector.
SCSI
Small computer serial interface. Super fast serial interface. Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) provide fast reliable storage for servers and storage arrays.
Adapters
Devices that use different output connector ports than their input connections.
DVI to HDMI
An adapter cable with DVI and HDMI connectors. No loss of video quality.
USB to Ethernet
An adapter with a usb dogger for pc connection and an ethernet port to allow the computer to send data packets out.
