Expermental Methods Flashcards
What is an experimental method?
manipulating one variable to see if it causes a change in other variables
what is an aim?
general goal of what you wish to accomplish at the end of the study
what is a hypothesis?
a research hypothesis predicts the effects of an IV on a DV (ie experiment)
what is the difference between aim and hypothesis?
aim is a general statement and hypothesis is something that can be experimented
what is a directional hypothesis?
stating the relationships between two conditions. predicting the direction of the results.
what is a non directional hypothesis?
stating a difference between two conditions. not predicting the results
when would directional hypothesis be used?
when predicting the direction of the results
when would non directional hypothesis be used?
when you are exploring the relationship between two things. it is not predicting the direction of the results.
what is experiment?
stating the difference between two conditions
what is correlation?
stating the relationship between two things
