Experiments Flashcards
Mass of water?
1cm3 has a mass of 1g.
How to raise the temperature of the water?
4.2 is the number of joules needed to raise the temperature of the water by 1 degrees.
How do you work out the energy released from food?
mass of water(g) x temperature rise (degrees C) x 4.2

Which gas is used up in respiration?
Oxygen.
Which gas is the product of respiration?
Carbon Dioxide.
Why do some things steam up when we breathe?
Because carbon dioxide and water are produced when we respire, travel in the blood and some of the water is removed when we exhale by the lungs.
Where do most reactions take place in aerobic respiration?
The mitochondria.
What happens to the glucose in anaerobic respiration?
It is only partially broken down so only a small amount of energy is released.
What happens to animals in anaerobic respiration?
There is an oxygen dept so the animal continues to breathe deeply until the oxygen is replaced and then the oxygen is able to break down the painful lactic acid into harmless carbon dioxide and water.
What is needed for photosynthesis?
Chlorophyll, carbon dioxide and light.
What do we test for to see if photosynthesis has taken place?
We test for starch because even thigh glucose is produced it is immediately changed into starch.
Why is light needed for photosynthesis?
Because the part that has been covered from the light hasn’t photosynthesised and the part that was in light had.
Where does anaerobic respiration take place?
The cytoplasm.
