experiments Flashcards
What is a lab experiment
an experiment where the researcher has all power. conducted in a controlled environment with standardized procedures.
what is a field experiment
everyday environment where an iv can be manipulated to get a result but lack of control on extraneous variable.
what is a natural experiment
everyday experiment with no control on iv so experimenter has no control.
what is a quasi experiment
natural iv tested in controlled setting such as a lab.
Ao3 of lab experiments
advantage;
- can see cause and effect
- controlled
- scientific
- replicable
disadvantage;
- demand characteristics
- objective
- possible bias
- mundarealsim
a03 of field experiments
advantage;
- reflect real life
- ecological validity
- no demand on characteristics
disadvantage;
- no control on extraneous variable
- lack of consent (ethic issues)
- not repicable
a03 of natural experiments
advantage;
- ecological validity
- no demand on characteristics
- ethically acceptable
disadvantage;
- expensive
- time consuming
- no extraneous variable control
- no random allocation
- less visual on cause and effect
a03 of Quasi experiment
advantage; -controlled disadvantage; -no randomization -confounding participant variables
whats a pilot study
small scale trials of experiment
why do we do pilot study
test design, variable and measuring issues beforehand as well as identify flaws.
whats mundarealism
Not true to real life
Whats ecological validity
scale of applicability
