What is a Laboratory experiment?
Unrealistic setting and controlling variables.
What is a natural experiment?
Realistic setting and no manipulation of variables.
What is a field experiment?
Realistic setting and controlling variables.
What is a quasi experiment?
An experiment with a naturally occurring IV such as sex, personality or intelligence.
What is naturalistic observation?
Psychologist does not manipulate a variable.
What is controlled observation?
Psychologist manipulates a variable.
What is covert observation?
Participants don’t know they are being watched.
What is overt observation?
Participants know they are being watched.
What is participant observation?
Psychologist takes part in the observation activity.
What is non-participant observation?
Psychologist does not take part in the observation activity.
What is time sampling?
A target individual or group is established and behaviour is recorded in a fixed tie frame e.g. 60 seconds
What is event sampling?
A target behaviour or event is established and researcher records this event every time it occurs.
