Experimental Design Flashcards
What is Experimental Design?
- how participants are
- arranged/split up
- in different conditions
What is a Repeated Measures Experimental Design?
-when participants experience both conditions
repeated because multiple measures
What is an Independent Measures Experimental Design?
- > When particpants are randomly placed/seperated
- ->into two different cond.
What is a matched pairs experimental design?
- > When participants are separated into diff. gs/ con.
- -> but are “matched up” or paired with a different participant
- -> who has sim. characteristics ( variables rel.)
- ->each group mirrors the other
Explain the advantages of a Repeated Measures Experimental Design
- -> no ind. diff. between gs
- -> bcus one same group
- -> Less time cons. 2 gather
- ->fewer participants
Explain the advantages of the Independent Measures Experimental Design?
- -> Avoids both F+ P order effects
- ->DCs less likely
- ->only obs, one cond.
Explain the advantages of a Matched Pairs Experimental Design?
- ->Reduces participant variables
- ->same charact. in each group - ->Both groups are easily comparable
Explain the disadvantages of a Repeated Measures Experimental Design?
- ->High chance of order effects (P+F)
- -> High chance of demand charac,
- ->experience both conditions
- ->High chance of attrition
Explain the disadvantages of an Independent Measures Experimental Design
- ->diff. characteristics between each group
- -> Double ppl required than repeated measures
Explain the disadvantages of a Matched Pairs Experimental Design?
- ->Time consuming
- ->2 find sample able to be matched
- ->If participant drops out might have to remove other(lost data)
- ->Imp to match ALL charac.
