Experiment 1- Simple Harmonic Oscillation Flashcards
What is Hooke’s Law?
It is defined by F= -kx; it is proportional to the displacement form the equilibrium position.
What will be done in this experiment?
There will be masses on the spring. As a result, the total force: F total= mg-kx. There will be a plot of mg versus x that will have a slope of k, the spring constant.
What is the equation for the x position of the x position?
X(t)= x0cos(omegaT), x0 is the initial position and omega is 2pif=(km)^1/2
What is the PERIOD, T, for the masss hanging on a spring?
T= 2pif(m/k)^1/2.
What is the relationship between the period and the K constant?
Inverse.
What will the plot of T vs. m look like?
A square root curve going through the origin with parameter of A=2pi/(k)^1/2.
What is the period of the system of a spring with an attached mass?
T= 2Pi(m+M/3/l)^1/2, where M/3 is the mass of the attached object. Also, the A will be 2Pi/(k)^1/2 and B=M/3.
