Putting DNA into bacteria via transformation
A
Taking up exogenous DNA, must have competent cells that are either natural or artificial.
In our experiment our E.coli was artificial- chemical

What chemical is added to make E. Coli competent?
A
Calcium Chloride, since it dissociates into calcium +2 and chloride -1. That allows both negatively charged DNA and bacteria to associate.

What does the heat shock do?
A
Allows pores to open up, and bacteria can take up plasmid

What was the purpose of Recovery Broth?
A
- Recover from the shock its endured
