In 1937 the Australian Government held a national conference on Aboriginal Affairs where it was decided that Aboriginal people who were not of ‘full-blood’ would be blended into towns, cities and the wider white community.
Who were the Stolen Generations?
The Stolen Generations were Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children who were removed from their families by the Australian federal and state government agencies and church missions, under acts of their respective parliaments from the late 1800s to 1970.
How did colonisation affect the First Nations peoples of Australia?
Introduction of alcohol, introduction of diseases, dispossessed of their lands, loss of culture and traditions, forced to live on reserves, separation of families.
