Q

What were AGP’s advantages over PCI?

A
  1. It resides on it’s own personal bus to North Bridge
  2. Uses pipelining commands similarly to CPUs
  3. Uses Sidebanding, esentially a second data bus to allow the video card to send commands to North Bridge while recieving commands at the same time (a kind of full duplex)

6
Q

What is system memory access and what does it do?

A

It’s a feature on AGP ports that allow video cards to use system RAM as an adjunct to the onboard video card RAM.

8
Q

Can you install a PCI card into a PCI;X slot?

A

Yes, but it won’t operate at PCI-X speeds, as it is backwards compatible with both hardware and software

10
Q

Which bus does the PCIe share?

A

PCIe doesn’t share a bus: it has its own connection to North Bridge.

What is a CNR slot?

A

It’s a Communications and Networking Riser, a port used for specialized networking, audio and telephony equipment.

26
Q

What is an AMR and what replaced it?

A

Audio and modem riser, a card designed to have audio and modem cards plugged into it.

27
Q

What was the point of the CNR?

A

To allow for cost savings for MB manufacturers: they only had to certify the CNR card instead of the entire MB
