Exogenic Process Flashcards
These are the processes that take place near the Earth’s surface, that makes the surface wear away
Exogenic Process
What are the 4 types of Exogenic Process.
WEATHERING, EROSION, MASS WASTING, SEDIMENTATION
The process of breaking down of rocks into smaller pieces
Weathering
The breaking down of rocks into pieces without any change in its composition. In this process, the size and shape of rock changes.
Physical Weathering
There are changes in composition of rocks due to the chemical reactions
Chemical Weathering
The movement of the weathered rocks from their site of the weathering
Erosion
Occurs when Earth materials settles in low lying areas
Deposition
Natural process in which a material is carried to the bottom of bodies of water and forms into solids
Sedimentation
Refers to the large mass of Earth materials being moved by gravity along a slope
Mass Wasting
The movement of sediment from broken rock
Erosion
The dropping of sediment in a new place
Deposition
Results in the sliding of coherent rock materials along a curved surface
Slump
Occurs when mud travels down a slope very quickly
Mudflow
Slow, gradual movement of soil or regolith downhill over time
Soil Creep
Occurs when pieces of rock break loose from a steep rock face or cliff
Rock Flow
Type of slide characterized by the chaotic movement of rocks, soil, and debris mixed with water and/or ice
Debris Slide
A moving mass of loose, mud, sand, rock, water and air that travels down a slope under the influence of gravity
Debris Flow
A downslope viscous flow of fine-grained materials that have been saturated with water and moves under the pull of gravity
Earthflow
