The people made a golden calf and could probably have broken the 1st and 2nd commandment. God wanted to kill them all but Moses argued with God about how God has promises to fulfill and a reputation to keep.

The tabernacle was built and completed, The material came from Egypt before the Exodus. God filled the tabernacle with His Glory.
