Existence of God (Omni-God, Arguments, & Theodicies) Flashcards
What are the key attributes of the Omni-God in Christianity?
Omniscient, Omnipotent, Omnipresent, Omnitemporal, and Omnibenevolent.
What is petitionary prayer?
It is asking God for something through prayer.
What is the Cosmological Argument?
It argues that everything has a cause, and the universe must have a cause, which is God.
What is the Teleological Argument?
It argues that things with a purpose, like Earth, must have been designed by someone, implying a creator.
What is the Ontological Argument for God’s existence?
If God is the greatest being, He must exist because a being that doesn’t exist cannot be the greatest.
What is the Epicurean Paradox?
If God is willing but not able to prevent evil, He is not omnipotent. If He is able but not willing, He is malevolent.
What is the Augustinian Theodicy?
Evil is a perversion of good, and it is the fault of humans that evil exists.
What is the Irenaean Theodicy?
Humans are created imperfect and must face suffering to grow morally and spiritually.
What is the Inconsistent Triad and what does it argue?
God is All-Good (benevolent) so God is willing to get rid of evil. God is All-Powerful (omnipotent) so God is able to get rid of evil.
Because evil exists, then does God does not exist.
What are the 2 types of evil?
Moral Evil – Suffering caused by the cruel or uncaring actions of humans. Eg. Hitler and the Holocaust.
Natural Evil – Things that cause suffering but have nothing to do with humans. Eg. The Japanese Tsunami.
