Exercise 3 Flashcards
Two types of cells in the body
Somatic and sex cells
Example of somatic cells are
Skin, liver, blood cells
The eggs in the ovary or sperm cells in the testis
Sex cells or gamete
Part of the cell cycle when the cells divide is called
Mitosis
A similar event happens in gametes which is called
Meiosis
Before mitosis happens, the cell has already duplicated its nuclear material in a process called
DNA replication
Chromosomes have two connected copies called
Sister chromatids
The chromosomes start to condense to dit like bodies; nucleolus and the nuclear membrane disappear
Prophase
Chromosomes become stringy in appearance
Late prophase
Chromosomes line up at the center of the cell; aligned at the metaphase plate
Metaphase
Sister chromatids move away from each other, towards the opposite poles of the cell
Anaphase
Chromosomes start to decondense; nuclear membrane and nucleoli start to re-appear
Telophase
Two nuclei form; one for each set of chromosomes
Telophase
Division of the cytoplasm which overlaps with the final stages of mitosis
Cytokinesis
Cytokinesis; In plant cells, a cell plate forms at the ________ of the dividing cell
Middle
