Exer 7 Flashcards
Pronucleus of newly fertilized egg is injected with foreign DNA
Pronuclear injection
Single nucleotide polymorphism scattered in the whole genome
High density genotyping
Creation of new geneotypes through clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats or transcription activator like effector nuclease systems
Genome editing technologies (CRSPR AND TALENS)
Many copis of specific DNA segment or gene are made
PCR-based genotyping technology
Introduction of frozen semen into female reproductive tract
Artificial Insemination
Production of identical animals
Somatic nuclear transfer or embryo splitting
Technology that utilizies hormonal treatment to enable the female to ovulate more ova than usual
Multiple ovulation and embryo transfer
Mixed models used to estimate the breeding value from pedigreee of animals and relative while correcting the phenotype for environmental effcet
Best Linear Unbiased Prediction
Immature oocytes are placed in a medium and incubated. These are then fertilized in vitro once matured. The embryo may be frozen then tranferred to recipient mother. Example is JIVET or juvenile in vitro embry transfer.
In vitro oocyte maturation and in vitro fertilization
The predicition of breeding value of an animal is based on thousands of single nucleotide polymorphisms laid out in the whole animal genome as opposed to the use of subset of genetic markers in MAS.
Genomic EBV
X and Y bearing sperms are separated such that we can select the gender of the offspring
Sperm sexing
Sex of the embryos can be determined through PCR. Males carry specific SRY gene
Embryo sexing
Storing biological material at very low temperature and still maintain their viability.
Gamete and embryo cryopreservation
