Battleground state
States where outcome is “too close to call”and either candidate could win
Presidential succession
The plan of how presidential vacancy is filled.
Executive order
Directives, rules, regulations that have the affect of the law
Treaty
Formal agreement between two or more nations
Line – item veto
To cancel some measures of a bill while approving others
Pardon
Legal forgiveness of a crime
Bureaucracy
Large, complex administrative structure that handles the every day business of an organization.
Federal budget
Detailed estimate of receipts and expenditures, in anticipation of the next fiscal year
Domestic affairs
All matters not connected with foreign affairs
Secretary
Each department in the executive office is headed by a secretary
Attorney general
Directs/heads the department of justice
Fiscal policy
The various means the executive branch uses to raise and spend money and thereby influence the economy
Progressive tax
The higher one’s income, the higher the tax rate.
Example… income tax
Interest
Charge for borrowed money, a percent of what was borrowed
Deficit
The shortfall between income and out-go
Also the property of being an amount that is less than expected
