Q

Lungs

A
  1. Blood transports Co2 from body to the lungs (cellular respiration)
  2. When you exhale, water vapor and Co2 are released
  3. Regulating Co2 levels is important

Q

Liver

A
  1. Converts toxic nitrogen-based waste (made through protein breakdown) into urea (less toxic compound)
  2. Urea is transported to blood via circulatory system and sent to kidneys for elimination

Q

Kidneys

A
  1. A pair of fist sized, bean shaped organs
  2. Filter out waste, extra water, urea, salt, and metabolic waste from blood
  3. Nephrons (1 million per kidney) that absorbed valuable substances and get rid of waste

Q

Homeostasis

A
  1. Nitrogenous waste (ammonia/urea) come from digestion and have to be removed regularly
  2. Kidneys control sodium levels by removing and reabsorbing sodium ions - helps control osmotic pressure
  3. Kidneys regulate pH by filtering out hydrogen ions and allowing bicarbonate to be reabsorbed into blood
  4. Glucose is a sugar not usually filter out (ppl with diabetes have too much glucose)
