Excretion in humans Flashcards
How is carbon dioxide excreted?
Through the lungs
What is the function of the kidney
To excrete urea and excess water and ions
What is the function of a nephron?
It has a glomerulus, which is where filtration of water, glucose, urea and ions takes place. Substances like glucose, which are needed by the body stay in the blood cappilaries and are reabsorbed into the blood. The nephron also makes urine by combining water with urea.
What is the role of the liver during assimilation?
The liver breaks down excess amino acids by removing their nitrogen-containing parts. The nitrogen-containing part is converted into urea and is sent to the kidneys. Amino acids needed by the body are assimilated into the blood.
Why is excretion important?
Because it gets rid of urea which is toxic to the body.
