Excretion Flashcards
What organs are involved in Homeostasis and Excretion?
Skin, Lungs, Large Intestine, Liver and Kidney
What is Excretion?
The process of removing cellular waste(helps to maintain ph and water balance in blood).
Where does Excretion occur?
In the Kidneys
What is Deamination? Where does it occur?
The process in which the amino group is removed from amino acids. It occurs in the Liver.
Name the parts of the kidney
Cortex, Renal Medulla, Renal Artery, Renal Vein, Renal Pelvis, Ureter and Nephron
What are the Nephrons responsible for?
They are responsible for filtering blood and the formation of urine.
What happens in the Cortex?
Filtration
What happens in the Medulla?
Water reabsorption
What happens in the Renal Pelvis?
Collects waste(urine) joins kidney to ureter
What is the function of the Afferent arteriole?
Brings blood to the glomerulus from from the renal artery.
What is the function of the Efferent arteriole?
Leaves glomerulus, takes blood to the capillary net
What is the function of the Glomerulus?
Ball of capillaries - site of pressure filtration
What is the function of the Bowman’s Capsule?
Surrounds the glomerulus, fluids from the blood that are to be urine enter the nephron here(filtration)
Function of the Proximal Tubule?
First tube in the nephron connected to Bowman’s capsule. Important for reabsorption
