Excretion Flashcards
What is excretion?
the removal of waste products of metabolic reactions ( respiration, photosynthesis, digestion- chemical reactions)
how is CO2 removed in animals
breathing system ( exhale)
how is O2 removed in plants
through the stomata
how is water removed from animals
excretory system ( urine) - blood, kidneys, bladder, urine
how are excess salts removed in animas?
excretory system ( urine) + sweat
How is urea removed in animals?
Excretory system ( urine)
what is the excretory organ for CO2?
Lungs
what is the excretory organ for urea?
kidney
what is the excretory organ for water
kidney ( plus sweat glands)
what is the excretory organ for mineral ions? ( iron calcium
kidney ( plus sweat glands)
where do humans gain water from?
water in food, drinking , cellular respiration
where do humans lose water?
urine, sweating/ exhalation and egestion of faeces
are faeces excreted?
NO!! they are a product of egestion!!
what is urea
Urea is produced in the liver when excess amino acids are broken down. Urea is the main waste product removed in the urine, as it is not reabsorbed in the kidney.
how do plants remove chemicals that are not required?
Plants may produce chemical substances that are not required and cannot be converted into useful compounds. These unwanted products can be stored in dying tissues, such as leaves in the autumn, before being shed
