3 things that must be in place for anyone to achieve salvation:
1 - faith in Christ (since salvation comes from Christ alone)
2- this faith in Christ must come from hearing the Gospel
3- must be a member of the Christian Church

doctrine of justification by faith
we are made righteous through faith rather than by any good work that we do
- Luther: “he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy”
What do they believe about God?
That he is an immanent God who intervenes in the world at particular times and places through vision and miracles to make himself known, because he desires that people come to know him
Why do they think that Christianity is superior to non-Christian religions?
because Jesus was God incarnate (God made man in Jesus)
What is Jesus to exclusivists?
he is the mediator between humans and God; without him, God would be inaccessible and salvation would be impossible
Problems with Exclusivism
- what about people in ancient times who existed before Christ died on the cross? Hell?
- what about people who have never heard the Gospel and are “inculpable ignorant”? How can they respond to Christ?
