Exceptions To Mendel Flashcards
What is incomplete dominance?
No allele is dominant, heterozygous phenotype lies somewhere between two homozygous phenotypes
Ex: red and pink flower link and makes pink flower
What is codominance?
Phenotypes produced by both alleles are clearly expressed
Ex: red and white flower link and create a spotted red and white flower
What are multiple alleles?
A gene with more than two alleles is said to have multiple alleles, an example is blood type
What is sex-linked inheritance?
Refers to genes located on sex chromosomes
What is XY?
Male
What is XX?
Female
What are polygenic traits?
Traits controlled by two or more genes are said to be polygenic (many genes)
-polygenic traits have wide range of phenotypes
-four genes would control this trait
Can the environment have an impact on genes?
Yes it influences genetically determined traits
-the phenotype of an organism is only partly determined by its genotype
