Examples of physical abuse
Children in a nursery may have bruises on ‘fatty’ parts of their arms.
Adults may lose weight unexpectedly
Examples of sexual abuse
A child may not want to get changed for PE with their peers due to their experiences.
An adult may complain a lot about pain in their genital or anal area
Examples of emotional / psychological abuse
A child may appear quieter or louder than normal in classes at their school
A resident of a care home may avoid lunchtimes or start losing weight unexpectedly
Example of neglect in a Health and Social Care Setting
A child may eat more than they normally do at lunch
A resident who enjoys going for walks regularly may start missing their regular walking activity.
Example of institutional abuse
An adult who leaves a care home for an activity may not want to return.
A child may start bruising in fatty areas which is noticed when they’re home.
