Simmond’s Test - ruptured Achilles tendon
What are the special tests for the elbow examination?
Resisted wrist extension - Lateral Epicondylitis
Resisted wrist flexion - Medial Epicondylitis
What are the special tests for the shoulder examination?
Empty can test - Supraspinatus strength
Resisted external rotation - Infraspinatus and Teres Minor strength
Gerber’s lift off test - Subscapularis strength
Empty can test with flexion - impingement
Hawkins-Kennedy - impingement
Scarf test - ACJ pathology
What are the special tests for the spine examination?
Schober’s Test - AS
Wall test - AS
Straight leg raise - Sciatica
Femoral stretch test - Femoral nerve irritation
What are the special tests for the hip examination?
Trendelenburg Test - hip abductor weakness
Thomas’ Test - fixed flexion deformity of the hip
What are the special tests for the knee examination?
Anterior/Posterior draw - ACL/PCL rupture
Medial and Lateral Collateral ligaments
What is included in a GALS examination?
Screening questions - pain, dressed or climbing stairs?
General Inspection
Close Inspection - alignment of shoulders, pelvis, knees, muscle bulk, scars, skin changes, swellings and erythema
Gait
Spine - C-Spine flexion, extension, lateral flexion and rotation/ L-spine lateral flexion and flexion
Arms - Put your arms behind your head, power grip, pinch grip, look at the hands, MCPJ squeeze
Legs - Hip internal rotation, knee effusion and MTPJ squeeze
