Examination Section Test #5 Flashcards
ORTHOGRAPHIC PROJECTION is a means for showing what relationship?
Orthographic Projection is a means for showing the relationship of all sides of an object.
What are the lines called which are drawn to carry over dimensions from view to view?
Construction lines.
How are CENTER LINES used on a drawing?
Center lines are used to indicate the center of a symmetrical object and the center of a circle or arc.
How are EXTENSION LINES used on a drawing?
Extension lines are used to extend the dimensions beyond the outline of a view so tha they can be read easily.
Is it permissible to substitute a visible line of the drawing for an extension line?
It should be avoided, if possible.
What are LEADERS use for?
Leaders are used to connect numbers, references , or notes to the appropriate surface on the drawing.
What are BREAK LINES used for?
Break lines are used to save space where an extended part of an object has the same continous shape and size.
What do CUTTING-PLANE lines indicate?
Cutting-plane lines indicate the plane or planes in which a sectional view is taken.
How are VIEWING-PLANE lines used?
Viewing-plane lines are used to indicate the plane or planes from which a surface or several surfaces are viewed.
Describe the two systems of a dimensioning.
In the rectangular system, horizontal or vertical dimension lines are drawn parallel to the distance to be dimensioned and any necessary extension lines are drawn perpendicular to it. In the angular system , the position of a point, line, or surface is shown by means of angles and linear dimensions at an angle other than 90 degrees.
In dimensioning angles, how are the dimension lines drawn?
As arcs.
What do TOLERANCE FIGURES represent?
The amount a part can be allowed to vary from a dimension when the part is made.
What does an AUXILIARY view show?
An auxiliary view shows some feature on the object which is not parallel with any of the three principal planes of projection.
What does a DETAIL view show?
A detail view shows a part of the drawing in the same plane and same arrangement but in greater detail and to a larger scale when in the principal view.
When are sectional views used?
Sectional views are used when the interior construction or hidden features of an object cannot be shown clearly by outside views.
