What do we exam ?
• The periodontal examination should be systematic, starting in the molar region in either the maxilla or the mandible and proceeding around the arch
• Plaque and calculus
• Gingiva. (color, size, contour, consistency, surface texture, position, ease of bleeding, and pain)
what types of chart ?
• BPE- chart (Basic Periodontal Examination )
• PSR-chart (periodontal screening and recording )
• Periodontal Chart (Universal)
What’s BPE chart benifits ?
Provides the assessment of patient’s perio Status and treatment needs
Based on basic periodontium examination
Should be done once a year
In BPE chart how the method done ?
Calibrated probe is walking around the gingival sulcus step –by –step or
sliding around the sulcus -developed pressure whilst probing is about 20-25 gr.
We exam all teeth except ? And which variable recorded ?
(except 3rd molar) but the worst variable is recorded

No bleeding
No treatment is required
