Q

Acts 5

A

Ananias and Sapphira told a lie and fell dead (they held some back when paying tithing); Luke includes this story, although it is a downer, because he wanted to teach the importance of keeping important covenants we’ve made with God. Stephen bears powerful testimony that eventually gets him killed because he is so bold. (communal living and its violations)

Q

Acts 15

A

Some men taught circumcision for the Gentiles. Peter said, “God gave the Spirit with no distinction.” Paul and Barnabas separated. Council of Jerusalem and the decision rendered- James the Just is the giver of the decision as a way to placate the Judaizers. He says that Gentiles can become Christian as long as they: abstain from eating of meat sacrificed to idols, don’t fornicate and don’t eat things that are strangled or bloody; A sense of condescension toward the gentiles; No circumcision required.

17
Q

Gal. 1&2

A

Paul, to the churches of Galatia. You are already turning to a different gospel! The gospel I preached came by revelation from Christ. I went up to Jerusalem and saw the leaders. I opposed Cephas about circumcision. We are justified by faith in Christ and not by works.
