Exam Tips Flashcards
What is the difference between Carbon Sequestration and Carbon Sinks?
Carbon Sinks are stores which absorb more carbon than they emit, whereas Sequestration is the human mitigation of climate change by absorbing carbon
Give examples of Carbon Sequestration
Natural: Creating peat bogs, afforestation
Artificial: Scrubbing exhaust emissions
What MUST be done if you are given a figure containing numbers of any sort!!!?
Make use of the numbers in your answer
If a question gives change throughout a year, what could you do?
Calculate net change over the year
Which cities have housed important climate agreements?
Rio Kyoto Buenos Aires Bonn Copenhagen Doha Paris
If a question asks about maintaining global temperatures increase, what could you include?
Use prior knowledge of what can be done to reduce emissions and how effective this is
What should be taken in to account when addressing changes to both cycles?
Natural variation
Human impact
Feedbacks
What must you remember about using a case study in your answer
Relate it to the question
i.e. how have the events studied affected BOTH the water and carbon cycles?
What can you mention about image sources?
Their medium (e.g. painting, photo) and the limitations of this
When explaining equilibria, what is likely to get some marks?
Explaining how the equilibrium can be upset or affected by human intervention
When discussing the causes of flooding what should you remember?
Processes
Saturation
Interception
Storm Hydrograph shape
