How many marks is the ‘Describe two features of …’ question?
4 marks
What is a ‘feature’?
A ‘feature’ is a statement about an important part of the topic in the question, e.g. “One feature of the Battle of Hastings is that Wiliam of Normandy won” or “One feature of the Battle of Hasting’s is that Harold Godwinson’s army was tired.”
How do I structure a ‘Describe two features …’ question?
1 mark for a general statement about the topic in the question (use the sentence starter: “One key feature of… is…)
+
1 mark for one piece of supporting evidence
(must be specific! E.g. a date, statistic, name, example)
x 2 = 4 marks!
What is a narrative account?
A narrative account is where you tell the true story of what happened in chronological order - it needs to be on the topic given in the question.
How many marks does the narrative account question have?
Eight marks
How do I use the two bullet points in the narrative account question?
You can use these as points in your answer, but make sure you use them in chronological (time) order!
How many different parts of the story do I need to tell in the narrative account question?
You need to write about five separate parts of the event, from start to finish.
How do I get full marks?
You get full marks by including 2 x causes of the event, 2 x features of the actual event and 2 x consequences of the event. Each statement given should be justified - why did you choose those two causes rather than any others?
How do I answer Q4 ‘Statement’ How far do you agree? (16)
You need minimum 4 paragraphs to get all 16 marks.
The first three paragraphs should cover different points and be prioritised - therefore each main body paragraph will get bigger as you explicitly compare the causes and explain the ranking.
Add a conclusion - use the ‘big points’ and explain why they are ranked that way.
