How did militarism cause WW1
As Britain had the most powerful navy, she was worried about other countries building up their armed forces, we could call this a worry about militarism
Germany Britain and other countries were keen to have large empires
How did alliances trigger WW1 and their names
One alliance included Germany, Austria-Hungary and Italy, called the Triple Alliance. Opposing them was the Triple Entente of France, Russia and England. These complex tensions finally exploded into war.
How did Nationalism trigger WW1
it caused nations to build up their armies and led to increased militarism. As well, it created extremely high tensions in Europe in the decades before the outbreak of the First World War
Explain the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand
A group of people called the Black Hand assembled to plot the killing of Archduke Franz Ferdinand, as they were in their car driving past everyone they threw a grenade/bomb which narrowly missed Franz Ferdinand and his wife, they then began speeding away, they came back to see who was hurt by the explosion the driver took a wrong turn and outside a shop was Gavrilo Principe a member of the backhand who then Shot Franz Ferdinand and his wife

And what is the domino effect
Austria-Hungary declares war on Serbia. Germany declares War on Russia. Germany declares war on France. Britain declares war on Germany
The domino effect is a series of events that start a chain reaction in this case it is countries declaring war on eachother

Propaganda - posters encouraging men to join the Army (posters and leaflets)
Social Pressure - Given a white feather to show they are cowards
Guilt
Friends joining and they dont want to be left out
Hated the Germans and believed what they were fighting for
Women Pressure
They thought it would be over by Christmas
Pals Buttulions (friends joining the army alongside eachother)

Why was trench warfare a feature of WW1
artillery and machine guns forced the armies on the Western Front to dig trenches to protect themselves.
Recall the plan for the battle of the somme
The attack would begin with a week long artiller bombardment to destroy defences
The infantry would then take hold of german positions followed by a charge of calvary breaking the enemy line in two
The reality of the battle of the somme
The week long bombardment warned the enemy an attack was coming giving them time to prepare
The German dugouts were well made so they hid in their underground bunkers until infantry attack started
The Bombardment churned up the ground making british advance difficult
British artillery shells failed to explode so parts of the German defences hadn’t been touched
When the men went over the top, 1st July wave after wave were simply mown down by enemy fire
