Language used to represent objects, actions, and ideas using the 5 senses
Foreshadowing:
A hint at future events
Suspense:
The intense feeling a reader gets while waiting for the outcome
Symbolism:
When an object represents another (dove = peace)
Tone:
An attitude of a writer conveyed through words or viewpoint of writer (“great!” “Great..”
Diction:
Choice of words (busy old fool, unruly sun)
Irony:
A technique to make u think something is going to happen but the opposite does
3 types of irony:
Dramatic
Situational
Verbal
Dramatic irony:
When the audience knows what is going to happen but the character doesn’t
Situational irony:
What you think is going to happen but the opposite happens
Verbal :
The use of words to mean something different than what they actually mean
Pathetic fallacy:
Human characteristics re given to nature
Personification:
Giving an un human object human characteristics
Protagonist:
The good guy
Antagonist
The bad guy
Types of conflict:
Person vs person, person vs self, person bs technology, person bs nature, person vs society, person bs supernatural
Setting:
The place and conditions in which something happens or exists
Theme:
The main subject that is being discussed or described in a piece of writing
