Biological Determinism
(nature) accepts a persons talents and abilities have come from the individuals genetic heritage.
Cultural Determinism
(nurture) accepts that an individual‘s talents and abilities are learned overtime from experience and from others within the individuals environment
Interactionism
(nature and nurture) accepts that human form and behaviours are the result of complex mixtures of genetic and environmental influences
Culture
A learned series of beliefs values thoughts and morality is transmitted from generation to generation
Enculturation
The process of learning how to feel think and behave as members of a particular culture
Xenophobia
The fear of the unknown or “strangeness” becomes a fear of strangers. can include physical appearance such as skin colour or cultural behaviour such as religion that is practised
Ethnocentrism
The false belief that one’s own culture is superior to other cultures is related to xenophobia and leads to racism
Stereotype
A generalization used to define a group of people based only on the words or actions of one member of the group unique characteristics and habits of individuals are not recognized
Prejudice
An almost always negative attitude about a group of people ; prejudgment
Discrimination
Action we take against others and humiliate belittles or disadvantages the victim
Racism
Combination of stereotypes prejudice and discrimination
Marginalization
A form of rejection which the individual is denied the opportunity to play significant role in the affairs of the group
Meritocracy
The idea that social inequalities are the result of individual differences in merit and effort
Tabula Rasa
The idea that compares the human born mind to a blank slate
White Privilege
Subtle racism that puts minorities disadvantage which results in preferential treatment or privileges to white people
