describe two features of physiological theories of criminality. (2 marks)
1) lombroso argued that criminals are PHYSICALLY different to that of non criminals because they are simply born criminals. he saw criminals as atavistic, meaning primitive. unable to control impulses, with a higher threshold to pain (an explanation to them typically having tattoos). he claimed that in a primitive society they would be normal but in our modern one, they are not.
he concluded that criminals could be identified by their distinctive physical features e.g enormous jaws, prominent eyebrow arch, large eye sockets etc.
describe a features of physiological theories of criminality. (2 marks )
sheldon saw criminals and non criminals as physically different and linked it to body types. he described this as somatypes.
there are three, ectomorphs, endomorphs, and mesomorphs,
endomorphs- fat with no muscle, round soft ect. personality - sociable, relaxed, comfortable and outgoing.
ectomorphs- skinny, narrow, flat chested and fragile. personality - selfconscious emotionally restrained
mesomorphs- hench, muscular
personality- assertive adventurous.
