Q
  1. Who is Jesus, the Christ? Explain his incarnate and pre-incarnate existence?
A

Jesus the Christ is the Son of the Living God. The Pre-incarnated Christ is has been defined as Emmanuel, God with us,

  • Matthew 1:23 tell us; “Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us”
  • Is 9:6-7 speaks of his name as Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

The incarnate Christ is explained in John 1:14 where we find that “And the Word became flesh and dealt among us.”

This Hypostatic union between the pre-incarnate and incarnate denotes the “Fully God and Fully man” existence where divinity and humanity are reunited with the intent to bridge the divide that was created by the act of sin.

Q
  1. What is sin and evil, and where did they come from?
A

Sin

  • anything that is contrary to the will of God.
  • It can be thought of as missing the mark
  • also as unbelief.

James 4:17; “Therefore, to one who knows the right thing to do, and does not do it, to him it is sin.”

Roman’s 1:28 speak of how because of God’s free will “they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;”

Evil is opposed to goodness of character, opposed to divine viewpoint, or opposed to divine good and it can be defined as a system of thinking that opposes divine truth either both in belief and behavior.

Mark 7:21-23 reads “For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed the evil thoughts, fornication, thefts, murders, adulteries, deeds of coveting and wickedness, as well as deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride, and foolishness. All these evil things proceed from within and defile the man.”

The question of where did sin and evil come from is a controversial theological subject. Is 45:7 could be taken to mean that God created evil. “I formed the light and created darkness: I make peace and create evil: I the Lord do all these things.”

But God created evil not for the purpose to destroy that which is good but for the sake of punishing the wrong doers for their wickedness just as eternal damnation awaits evil doers.

  • Job 21:30 says; “That the evil man is reserved to the day of calamity? That they are led forth to the day of wrath?”
  • PS: 37:1-2 says Fret not thyself because of evil-doers, Neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity. For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb.”
  • Matthew 23:33 says “Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell?

God’s angles possessed the knowledge of good and evil. But Satan chose evil over good.

Ezk 28:11-19 speaks of this and the damnation that was pronounced upon Satan.

Adam and Eve became aware of good and evil, Gen 2:17 and as a result opened themselves up to death through sin.
