Describe Question Technique
4 marks - 1 mark per sentence
4 separate sentences
Describe the event/experiences the question is asking you about
think of 4 different possible answers
2 describe questions in the paper
DO NOT list,bullet point or run your answer into one big sentence
Explain the reasons why question technique
Give six separate reasons why something happened
ABC technique for each answer
Do this six times
Will be 3 of these questions in the paper - one in each section
Explain the ABC technique
Address the question (A) - e.g There were many reasons why the slave trade was important to British cities
Because (B) - Just use the word because
Comment (C) - write a comment that explains the importance
To what extent question ( 9 marks)
Short essay question 2 of them in the paper Marks are awarded as follows : Introduction - 1 mark Knowledge - 5 marks Balance - 1 mark Conclusion - 2 marks
To what extent question technique
Intro - Address the question then list the other factors you will talk about
Topic (Factor One) - One factor that contributed to/was important …was… (use the factor in the question)
Important evidence (1-2 marks) Give TWO facts about your topic that links to the question
REPEAT THIS WITH 2 MORE FACTORS UNTIL YOU HAVE GIVEN 6 KNOWLEDGE POINTS
Use the question to form your answer. e.g Another factor which contributed to .. USE THE QUESTION .. was
CONCLUDE your essay with what you think answers the question best ( i.e Machine guns were the deadliest weapons on the western front) JUSTIFY your conclusion with Information
How fully question
6 marks total
You will use a source to get information ( 3 marks)
You will need to interpret this information ( use your own words to tell the examiner what it means)
Need 3 more descriptions/explanations that are not mentioned in the source
2 how fully questions will ask you to describe
1 will ask you to explain
HAVE to make a judgement. e.g Source A PARTLY describes/explains. otherwise you are limited to 2 marks

Source a Partly describes . … (Use question topic)
Source A States “ quote from source” this means that …. (explain the quote in your own words)
DO THIS A TOTAL OF 3 TIMES
However , Source A does NOT state ( something from your own knowledge that isn’t in the source)

If you think a recall point is wrong add another one just in case.
Evaluate the Usefulness question
5 marks
2 of these in the exam
1 is primary source
1 is secondary source
Explain the source is useful because of its origin
explain the source is useful because of what it tells us
source could be more useful if it told us something else
use the word ‘USEFUL’ in EVERY sentence to gain the 5 marks
Evaluate the usefulness question technique
If the source is Primary the Author is an eyewitness to the events asked about in the question/explained in the source
If the source is secondary the Author is a historian who has carried out lots of research on the events asked about in the question/ explained in the source
If the source is Primary it was written at the time when the event in the question happened
If the source if Secondary it was written after the event asked about in the question but with the benefit of hindsight
2 quotes from source with sentence saying “This is useful because it is accurate information”
2 recalled knowledge points with the sentence
“ However , the source would be more useful if it told us .. .”
