Exam Prep Flashcards
What approach category are DH8A & DH8C classified in, and between what speeds does it cover?
Approach category B, 91-120
Learjet 60 is on final with a Cessna Citation following. How much separation is needed between them?
5 NM, L behind M
Anemometer measures what?
Wind speed
What is a racetrack?
Racetrack = Course Reversal Procedure for instrument approach procedures
What time zone is used in aviation?
UTC (Universal Time Coordinated)
DME measures constant distance with UHF. True/False?
True
True airspeed is measured using a Differential Airspeed Indicator. True/False
False, differential airspeed indicator doesn’t exist :O
Can you separate using NDB,VOR/DME and if so by how much?
Yes, NDB 30degrees 15NM, VOR/DME 15degrees 15NM
What are the consequences of bad communication
I don’t remember the answer but use your common sense and you should be okay :’)
What is the definition of fog?
Cloud near or on the ground which causes a visibility of less than 1000m
What is a Rhumb line?
Line on earths surface that crosses all meridians at a constant angle.
Definition of cross-, same- and reciprocal track
Same Track = ±44° from heading
Reciprocal Tracks = within the opposite tracks of the same track (+180°)
Crossing Track = the 90° left on either side of same track
Example:
Heading 270
Same track => 226 - 314 (±44°)
Reciprocal track => 134 - 46 (180°)
Crossing track => 135-225 & 314-46
What is the definition of non precision approach?
Precision non precision lär dig
2D, only lateral guidance
What is a VORTAC? Can everyone use it?
VOR + TACAN, used by military. Yes but only as distance (DME)
Slant range
Distance between 2 objects at different heights
What is the decision height for a CAT I ILS approach?
200ft
The lines that indicate variation are called isogons. What are they called if the variation is 0 (passes through both magnetic and true north)?
Agonic lines
What causes the angle between an aircrafts heading and actual track?
Crosswind, pilot needs to calculate WCA to make up for it.
What is the lowest assignable (usable) frequency for VHF.
118.000
What is the lowest visibility needed for a helicopter operation on SVFR rules in a CTR?
800 meters
What is angle of attack?
The angle at which the chord of an aircraft’s wing meets the relative wind.
What is the correct phraseology;
“Turn left heading …” 80 or 080 degrees?
080
If your TAS is 210kts with a headwind of 30kts, how far will you get in 23 minutes?
~70NM.
210 - 30 = 180
180 x (23/60) = 69NM ~ 70
What approach category is a DH8A
Approach category B
What is a green approach?
A constant descent from top of descent.
Be able to recognize a DASH 8 with a picture
High Wing etc.
What is V1?
Decision speed, failure at or after V1 is reached = continue take off
What is true airspeed?
Physical airspeed of an aircraft relative to the air surrounding it.
