What is the effect direct address has on the reader?
It grabs the readers attention and engages the reader to read the text as they feel that by being directly addressed makes that text is especially for them and is relevant to them
What is alliteration?
A group of words beginning with the same letter or sound
What is the effect of alliteration on the reader?
It makes the text catchy and stick in the readers head
What is a fact?
Something that can be proven to be true
Why would an author use facts in his text?
To make the text sound authorative accurate and therefore believable
What is an opinion?
A belief that can not be proven to be true
What is the effect of an opinion on the reader?
It can sway the reader to the authors point of view
What is a rhetorical question?
A question used for effect, not requiring a reply
What is the effect of a rhetorical question on the reader?
It grabs the readers attention,makes the reader feel like the text is especially for them
What is emotive language?
It is words that bring out an emotional response
What is the effect of emotive language on the reader?
It makes the topic of the text seem very good or bad, depending on the purpose of the text

Numerical facts and data
Why are statistics used by the author?
Makes the text seem authoritative and accurate and therefore believable
