How is iron deficiency anemia diagnosed?
Through a blood test

Changes in bowel habits Sometimes tenesmus (a continual or recurring inclination to empty the bowels)
How should a colostomy look after coming back to the ward?
Pink and oedematous
Nursing actions for stoma care?
Make sure it is fitted correctly
Nasogastric tube is used for what?
Draining gastric juice/secretions
Nursing care for NG tube patients
Pts require frequent mouth and nasal care to prevent dryness
Checking pH aspirate with strips to make sure the aspirate is acidic (this is to make sure the NG tube is fitted properly)
Ng tube administration possible complication?
Perforation of stomach wall
Chronic emphysema problems
Overdistention of alveoli
Barrel shaped chest
Look emaciation (very sick)
Breathing exercises for emphysema
Should be taught to breathe with pursed lips to increase expiratory resistance

Usually transmitted orally or faecally
