Exam/Diagnosis/Treatment Plan Flashcards
What are the 3 types of denture occlusion arrangements?
1.BALANCED
2.NON-BALANCED
3.LINGUALIZED (can be used
with 1,2)
What is balanced occlusion?
the bilateral, simultaneous, anterior and posterior occlusal contact of
teeth in centric and eccentric positions
How does the jaw move in a balanced occlusion?
The teeth are touching on both sides, arranged along curve of Spee and Wilson
What are indications for balanced occlusion?
Young, healthy alveolar ridges; good muscular control; Class I jaw relationship; has accurate records
What is non-balanced occlusion?
Monoplane occlusion (what we did), on flat plane
How will non-balanced occlusion behave?
Teeth will not meet on non-working side while using working side
What is lingualized occlusion?
Lingual cusp of the maxillary hit the surface of the mandibular teeth
What can lingualized be used for?
Both balanced and non-balanced occlusion arrangements
What does non-balanced work best for?
Someone who doesn’t have good muscular control (without reproducible records) and poor alveolar ridges
What is condylar guidance determined by?
The patient’s anatomy
What are some monoplane indications?
Excessive inter-ridge distance; class II or III or crossbites, limited oral dexterity, severly resorbed ridges
What are pyschological classifications of patients?
Philosophical, exacting, hysterical, indifferent
What are the philosophical patient characteristics?
What are the exacting patient characteristics?
What are the hysterical patient characteristics?
