What are the steps for a successful zip?

A

Transfer- transfer the participant from the belay system to the y-lanyards on top of the zip tower

Check- you will go through a set of commands with the ground belayer (“On static, off belay,” “Show me.” Show them the Ys. “Lock check.” Click the lock to the lifeline. “Off belay.”)

Check- check the participant’s 5 Hs

Clear- clear the zip with the person manning the ladder

Clip- clip the student into the zip

Unclip- unclip the y-lanyards

Sweep- make sure the area is clear of shoelaces, anything stray that could get caught (also, the participant’s hair needs to be in a bun, nothing dangly)

Commands- “On zip,” “Show me.” Then you show them. “Lock check.” Check that it’s locked. “Zip on.”

What are the 5 Hs?

A

Helmet- Is their helmet on securely?

Hair- Is their hair tied back so it won’t get caught on the equipment?

Harness- Can they barely fit three fingers in their waistband? Is the buckle double-backed?

Hardware- Is the hardware locked? Is the rope twisted?

Human/Heart- How is the participant feeling? What is their goal?
