What are delusions ?
Fixed false beliefs

What are hallucinations ?
Experiencing sensory stimuli That is not their …. Eg : No one is eyeing feeling or hearing but you !

How do you respond to delusions/ hallucinations ?
Acknowledge the patient concern
Re orient to reality
Do not encourage false belief or experience
What is conflict ?
Presences of opposing or incompatible thoughts , ideas , goals , implies or drive
Eg: when a person is I’ll and needs to see a physician , but does not for fear of getting bad news
What is personality & how is it developed ?
Relatively consistent attitudes & behaviors particular of an individual
–development comes from hereditary ( nature ) and enviorment ( nurture )
Freud’s theory of personality , superego , ego , ID, ?
- ID ( child ) - seeks pleasure , gratification , primitive drives …. basic , innate , psychic energy
- EGO-(adult )- stands for good reason , spence ….. reasonable … Mediates between persons perception & objective reality , always rational
- SUPEREGO(parent ) -Part of the personality that acts like a conscience eg : what’s right or wrong …….. Incorporates societal values judgemental & critical
What is motivation ?
personal resources or inner drive to complete a task , to reach a goal , may be EXTRINSIC or INTRISIC
What is frustration ?
Anything that interferes with goal - directed activity
What is the most important factor in therapuetic relationship ?
Building trust

Behavior is learned

What are the defense mechanism ? Know specific types eg : Displacement
conversion – being blind because you saw someone being murder
rationalization – to justify oneself … child being told to clean his room and don’t do it gives a long explanation
regression –reverting back to doing thing you used to do ….like wetting the bed again
displacement – not taking your anger out on your boss , but on your husband
denial – reality is denied , …..being told you have a hip fracture and still doing push ups
identification –individual incorporates a characteristic …..dressing up like your favorite actress
introjection – an attribute of another is internalized ….child following direction while parents are not around
projection attributing characteristics that the person does not want to admit to…..blaming the teacher cause you did poor on your test
