amino acids contain…
amines and carboxylic acids
naturally occuring AA?
all L-alpha-AA
acidic side chain contains
carboxylic acid
basic side chain contains
amine or C=N
Neutral, Polar side chains contain
alcohols, amides, SH
Neutral, Non polar side chains contain

pH=pI
zwitterion
charge on amine and carboxylic acid
no charge on side chains
pH<pI
acidic
carboxylic acids + ammoniums
pH>pI
basic
carboxylates and amines

Transcription
How RNA is made from DNA
Translation
Initiation: mRNA start codon tells tRNA to start bringing AA
Elongation: tRNA brings 1 AA at a time + peptidyl transference connects it to protein
Termination: mRNA stop codon tells tRNA to stop bringing AA and termination factor hydrolyzes protein off tRNA
