Exam Flashcards
Steps to forming a hypothesis
1) identify the problem
2) ask questions
3) formulate a hypothesis
epithelial tissue
Serves two functions
- to provide covering (skin tissue)
- produce secretions (glandular tissue)
connective tissue
- found throughout the body to connect different structures
- typically has it’s own blood supply
- *ligaments do not have own blood supply
types of connective tissue
- bone
- cartilage
- adipose (fat)
- blood vessel
muscle tissue
is dedicated to producing movement
types of muscle tissue
- skeletal
- cardiac
- smooth
nervous tissue
provides structure for the brain, spinal cord, and nerves
circulatory system (cardiovascular system)
consists of the heart, blood vessels, and blood
-supports distribution of various substances throughout the body
digestive system
-consists of all organs from the mouth to the anus involved in the ingestion and breakdown or processing of food
endocrine system
serves to control body functions by secreting hormones that travel through the blood to organs throughout the body
integumentary system
consists of the skin, mucous membranes, hair, and nails.
- protects internal tissues from injury, waterproofs the body, and helps regulate body temperature
- serves as a barrier to pathogens
lymphatic system
consists of lymph nodes, lymph vessels, spleen, thymus, and tonsils
-supports immune system by housing and transporting white blood cells to and from lymph nodes
muscle system
consists of skeletal muscles, tendons that connect muscles to bones, and ligaments that attach bones together to form joints.
nervous system
consists of the brain, spinal cord, and nerves
-serves as the body’s control system
reproductive system
main purpose of the reproductive system is to produce offspring
-consists of testes, penis, ovaries, vagina, and breasts
