exam 4 Flashcards
What are the components of the blood?
Leokocytes, Platelets, Erthtocytes, and plasma
Anemia
Either the percentage of erythrocytes is lower than normal or the
oxygen-carrying capacity is reduced
Characteristics of Leukocytes?
Defend against pathogens, Contain nucleus (but no hemoglobin),
Platelets
Small membrane enclosed cell fragments. No nucleus, important in blood clotting. 30% is stored in the spleen. They circulate the blood for 8 to 10 days and then they are recycled.
What is hemostasis
stopping of bleeding
What happens in the right side of the heart?
Right Atrium: receives deoxygenated blood, from the body
Right Ventricle: Pumps deoxygenated blood to the lungs.
What happens on the left side of the heart?
Left atrium: receives oxygenated blood from the lungs
Left ventricle: pumps oxygenated blood to the body
Atrioventricular valves
between the atrium and the ventricle
Semilunar Valves
between the ventricle and an arterial trunk
Right AV valve
tricuspid
Left AV valve
bicuspid or mitral valve
Coronary sulcus
separates atria from the ventricles
Epicardium
Visceral layer of the serous pericardium
- outermost heart layer
- simple squamous epithelium
Myocardium
-middle layer of the heart
- cardiac muscle tissue that contracts to pump blood
